Danvers, MA – Vogt Power International Inc., located in Louisville, KY, a subsidiary of Babcock Power Inc., based in Danvers, MA, announced today that it was awarded the Heat Recovery Steam Generators (HRSGs) for Energia del Sur S.A. (EdS) combined cycle conversion project located in Comodoro Rivadavia, Chubut-Argentina.

Vogt Power will design, engineer, manufacture and deliver two duct fired, single pressure level, natural circulation HRSGs, to be installed behind GE Frame 6B gas turbines. The Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) conversion project will add 60MW of new high efficiency capacity by the addition of a steam turbine generator powered by the waste heat recovered by Vogt’s HRSGs from the GE gas turbines. Because the bulk of the steam for this additional power capacity is produced from exhaust gases that would otherwise vent into the atmosphere, the new plant will be eligible for carbon credits under the United Nations Clean Development Mechanism established under the Kyoto Protocol. Total capacity will be 138MW when the CCGT conversion is completed in 2008.

“The EdS conversion project is one of the first power projects with international financing since the Argentine currency devaluation occurred in 2001,” said Mike LeClair, President of Vogt Power International. “Prior to 2001 we had successfully executed several power projects in Argentina and we are pleased to see the market has redeveloped, allowing us to again provide equipment that will generate environmentally friendly power for EdS.” EdS is owned by Basic Energy (Rolando Gonzalez Bunster ), Esteban Reynal and Rurelec PLC.
