Wärtsilä´s preliminary contract of equipment supply for a 300 MW power plant to Azerbaijan has been confirmed. The value of the deal is approximately EUR 160 million. The order is included in the fourth-quarter order intake for 2006.

The multi-fuel power plant will be delivered to AzerEnerji, the national energy company of Azerbaijan during autumn 2008. Wärtsilä will deliver eighteen Wärtsilä 18V50DF generating sets and related equipment to this new plant. The plant will be located in Sangachal, 50 km south of the capital Baku.

"Wärtsilä´s success in Azerbaijan is based on our proven technology with fuel flexibility, high efficiency, and reliable deliveries," says Christoph Vitzthum, Group Vice President, Power Plants. "This order further strengthens our good relationship with this customer."

In 2005 AzerEnerji ordered five power plants from Wärtsilä, totalling 450 MW. The first two have been taken into commercial operation and three plants were commissioned at the end of 2006.
