Aggreko, LLC (Aggreko), the world leader in rental temperature control, power generation, and oil-free compressed air solutions, will award the Louisiana Technical College (LTC) – Gulf Area Campus Diesel Program a 50kW Generator at the campus’ annual industry banquet Tuesday night. In addition to the generator, Aggreko will provide training classes for the instructors at the LTC – Gulf Area Campus in Abbeville, Louisiana. The generator, along with the instruction, will provide students with the ability to learn a new trade while gaining hands-on experience.
Mike Moreau, Lead Technician at Aggreko, stated, “We are providing the generator and training to the school to further enhance students’ learning experience. This will provide the opportunity for students to learn to troubleshoot generator issues and will help them to receive complete hands-on training.”
The mission of the Diesel Powered Equipment and Technology Program is to provide specialized classroom instruction and practical shop experience to prepare individuals for employment as job entry-level diesel powered equipment technicians. The program prepares the individual to select, safely use, and maintain hand and power tools, jacks, and hoisting equipment. The content includes disassembling engines and replacing parts, fuel injection systems, oil and water pumps, electrical systems, steering and suspension systems, brake systems, drive train, and chassis. Instruction also includes the use of technical manuals, preventive maintenance procedures, and safe and efficient work practices.
Keith Sherman, instructor at LTC – Gulf Area Campus, attended one of the generator-based training classes at the Aggreko training center in Pearland, Texas. “I am delighted that Aggreko is providing training and look forward to giving my students the opportunity to learn about generator repair and better equipping them for the workforce,” said Mr. Sherman.
LTC – Gulf Area Campus Interim Assistant Dean Angela Lee stated, “This is a perfect example of business and industry partnering with education to provide a well-trained workforce. We are extremely grateful for Aggreko’s generosity.” Both Ms. Lee and Mr. Sherman emphasized the need for qualified and trained diesel and powered equipment technicians especially since the dual blows of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
In addition to providing training for the Gulf Area Diesel students, the students enrolled in the Electrician program will also benefit from this training and hands-on experience. This will be especially valuable to those electrician students who want to receive the Industrial Technician and/or Marine Electrician certification.
