Four GEDA SH 400 EX service hoists are in permanent use at the LNG Import Terminal at the port of Sagunto, in the Province of Valencia, Spain. The German manufacturer GEDADechentreiter GmbH and Co KG from Bavaria delivered the industrial hoists for the "Regassagunto" project in early 2012.

Over the last few years, GEDA has specialised in permanently installed industrial hoists, adding a second string to its bow in addition to its well-known construction site lifts.

Exchange of existing industrial hoists

GEDA’s long-established partner, Turbo Iber based near Madrid, Spain, was in close contact with the operators of the gas tanks in Sagunto. The exchange of the existing industrial hoists was a specified requirement of the end-customer SAGGAS as the industrial hoists in use were coming to the end of their lives and could no longer be reliably deployed at the LNG Import Terminal.

No experiments for paella or hoists

"Made in Germany" reliability and quality over the whole range won the day as the operators did not want to run an experiment on the service lifts.

Just as nobody wants to venture any experiments with paella in Valencia, nobody wanted to risk any further attempts with the lifts installed on the LNG tanks in Sagunto.

Maintenance and service work must be carried out reliably and the personnel required for this have to be transported quickly and safely to the top, which is precisely why the four permanent installations of GEDA SH 400 EX service lifts are in operation.

Explosion-protected implementation

LNG-Tanks are full of liquefied natural gas, therefore, it is a requirement that the industrial hoists used meet the rules and regulations for work in explosion-protected areas governed by ATEX Zone 2, Gas Group IIB, Temperature Class T3 – a requirement naturally complied with by GEDA.

The lifting height per hoist is 60m with the specified requirement of the customer being that it had to be possible to travel two landings (at 45m and 56m) plus the ground station or entry point at 2.50m. The maximum lifting height of the GEDA SH series is 200m and the maximum load capacity is 1000kg.

In the "Regassagunto" project, the load capacity per hoist is 400kg, while up to five people can be transported at a lifting speed of 24m/min.

The platform size for the SH 400 is 875mm x 1120mm x 2150mm. The hoists, which are guided on steel triangular masts, are assembled fast, easily, and in a space-saving manner. The drives, switch cabinet, the automatic lubrication system, and the safety gear are applied to the roof of the cage so that no separate machine room is required.

The cage has a trapdoor in the roof that enables it to be accessed for assembly and maintenance work. This trapdoor also serves as an emergency escape route.

The cage also contains the speed-regulated emergency lowering, which is used in the event of a power failure to secure access to the next stop position or ground station.

Comprehensive support

GEDA offers comprehensive project support starting from the advisory and quotation stage through to assembly, service and maintenance, so everything is provided from a single source. This ensures an optimum customer-oriented contract and order processing, which has once again been proven in Spain with the "Regassagunto" project.
