Island Operation Tests to Optimise Turbine Frequency Control

By Solvina International

One of the major concerns when running a power producing unit in island operation is the ability to control frequency. Few units are equipped with proper controllers and even fewer have ever been tested.

In 1999 Solvina developed a test equipment for that purpose, the SolvSim Power Station, SSPS. The method developed is able to evaluate the frequency control capability of a production unit, determine stability margins, find reasons for any malfunction and support control parameter tuning.
