Asia-Pacific power industry contracts in Q2 2021: China leads activity
Looking at contracts by country, China led the activity in Q2 2021 with 81 contracts and a share of 30.8%, up 9.6% over the previous quarter and up 21% when compared with the last four-quarter average, followed by India with 40 contracts and a share of 15.2% and Vietnam with 23 contracts and a share of 8.7% during the quarter.
Looking at the last four-quarter average, China held the top spot with 67 contracts, followed by India with 58 and Australia with 32 contracts.

Solar is top technology area for contracts in Q2 2021
Looking at contracts divided by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 104 contracts and a 43.5% share, followed by wind with 66 contracts and a 27.6% share and thermal with 31 contracts and a 13% share.
Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, Power Plant was the most popular segment in Asia-Pacific power contracts activity during Q2 2021, with 116 contracts, followed by Generation Equipment (80) and Electricity Procurement (48).
The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:
- Project Implementation: 97 contracts and a 36.9% share
- Supply & Erection: 77 contracts and a 29.3% share
- Power Purchase Agreement: 43 contracts and a 16.3% share
- Consulting & Similar Services: 35 contracts and a 13.3% share
- Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: seven contracts and a 2.7% share
- Electricity Supply: four contracts and a 1.5% share.

The top issuers of contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:
- State Power Investment (China): 7,200MW from one contract
- Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Uzbekistan (Uzbekistan): 3,897MW from four contracts
- Solar Energy Corporation of India (India): 1,840MW capacity from four contracts.

- Abu Dhabi Future Energy (United Arab Emirates): 2,397MW capacity from three contracts.
