Electricity procurement contracts in April 2022 saw 50 contracts announced, marking a drop of 47% over the last 12-month average of 94, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Power Purchase Agreement: 46 contracts and a 92% share
  2. Project Implementation: four contracts and an 8% share.

Asia-Pacific leads electricity procurement activity in April 2022

Comparing contracts activity in electricity procurement segment in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with 18 contracts and a share of 36% during April 2022, followed by North America with 14 contracts and a 28% share and Europe with 12 contracts and a 24% share.

Solar is leading technology for electricity procurement contracts in April 2022

Among the technologies, solar accounted for 38 contracts with a 70.4% share, followed by wind with 12 contracts and a 22.2% share and geothermal with two contracts and a 3.7% share.

The top issuers of electricity procurement contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. West Holdings (Japan): 2,700MW from four contracts
  2. Meta Platforms (United States): 566MW from three contracts
  3. GRIDCO (India): 200MW capacity from one contract.

Electricity procurement contracts in April 2022: Top winners by capacity

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. JERA (Japan): 2,700MW from four contracts
  2. EDP Renovaveis (Spain): 641MW from four contracts
  3. Luxcara (Germany): 210MW capacity from one contract.
