Kakono is an 87MW hydro power project. It is planned on Kagera river/basin in Kagera, Tanzania. The project is currently in permitting stage. It will be developed in single phase. Post completion of the construction, the project is expected to get commissioned in 2022.

Kakono is a run-of-river project. The hydro reservoir capacity is planned to be 1,900 million cubic meter. The gross head of the project will be 70m. The project is expected to generate 573 GWh of electricity. The project cost is expected to be around $379.4m.
The hydro power project consists of 2 units of kaplan turbines.
Post completion of the construction, the project is expected to get commissioned in 2022.
