Tanzania Electric Supply Co Ltd (TANESCO), formerly Tanganyika Electric Supply Co Ltd, is a government owned integrated power company. The company’s operations are regulated by the Ministry of Energy and Minerals. It generates, transmits, distributes and supplies electricity. TANESCO generates the power through hydro and thermal power stations. TANESCO also procures electricity from independent power producers and EPPs. Its transmission system consists of 50 substations interconnected by transmission lines, and the distribution system distributes electricity and provides customer service.
