Dominion Virginia Power has restarted operations of its 1,800MW North Anna Power Station in the US state of Virginia, after securing permission from the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

The station was shut down automatically when a 5.8-magnitude earthquake occurred on the East Coast of the US on 23 August this year.

Dominion said it will first bring the facility’s Unit 1 online safely, and then begin the process for the second unit.

Both units will take ten days to return to 100% operational mode.

The company undertook a $21m programme of inspections, testing and analysis to make sure the station had no functional damage.
