North America power industry tenders in April 2020: The US leads activity

Looking at tenders by country, the US led the activity in April 2020 with 166 tenders and a share of 85.6%, up 4% over the previous month and up 51% when compared with the last 12 month-average, followed by Canada with 28 tenders and a share of 14.4%.

Looking at the last 12-month average, the US held the top spot with 110 tenders, followed by Canada with 33.

Thermal is top technology area for tenders in April 2020

Looking at tenders divided by the type of technology, thermal accounted for the largest proportion with 75 tenders and an 85.2% share, followed by solar with nine tenders and a 10.2% share and hydro with four tenders and a 4.5% share.

Looking at power industry tenders divided by segment in North America as tracked by GlobalData, T&D Equipment was the most popular segment in April 2020, with 93 tenders, followed by Generation Equipment (76) and Energy Storage (14).

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 146 tenders and a 75.3% share
  2. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 38 tenders and a 19.6% share
  3. Project Implementation: ten tenders and a 5.2% share.

Power tenders in April 2020: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of tenders for the month in terms of power capacity involved in North America were:

  1. Saskatchewan Water: 0.1MW from one tender
  2. Halifax Regional Water Commission (Canada): 0.08MW from one tender
  3. Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District: 0.03MW capacity from one tender.
