Description
Department of Water Affairs and Forestry, South Africa and Eskom Holdings SOC are currently owning the project.
Palmiet is a pumped storage project. The hydro reservoir capacity is 19.3 million cubic meter. The gross head of the project is 285.6m. The total number of penstocks, pipes or long channels that carry water down from the hydroelectric reservoir to the turbines inside the actual power station, are 2 in number. The penstock length is 700m. The penstock diameter is 3.9m.

Contractors Involved
Voith Hydro was selected as the turbine supplier for the hydro power project. The company provided 2 units of francis turbines, each with 200MW nameplate capacity.
Fuji Electric supplied 2 electric generators for the project. The generator capacity is 250 MVA.
