South and Central America power industry contracts in June 2019: Brazil leads activity

Looking at contracts by country, Brazil led the activity in June 2019 with 22 contracts and a share of 81.5%, up 20.4% over the previous month and up 100% when compared with the last 12 month-average, followed by Costa Rica with one contract and a share of 3.7% and El Salvador with one contract and a share of 3.7% during the month.

Looking at the last 12-month average, Brazil held the top spot with 11 contracts, followed by Argentina with five and Chile with two contracts.

Solar is top technology area for contracts in June 2019

Looking at contracts divided by the type of technology, Solar accounted for the largest proportion with 11 contracts and a 40.7% share, followed by Wind with nine contracts and a 33.3% share and Hydro with five contracts and an 18.5% share.

Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment in South and Central America as tracked by GlobalData, Power Plant was the most popular segment in June 2019, with 17 contracts, followed by Generation Equipment (9) and Electricity Procurement (2).

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 16 contracts and a 59.3% share
  2. Supply & Erection: eight contracts and a 29.6% share
  3. Power Purchase Agreement: two contracts and a 7.4% share.

Power contracts in June 2019: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in South and Central America were:

  1. Agencia Nacional de Energia Eletrica, Brazil (Brazil) with 401.6MW from 15 contracts
  2. Tracia Network (Guatemala) and Ventus (Belgium) with 54MW from one contract
  3. McDonald’s with 5.3MW capacity from one contract.

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in South and Central America were:

  1. Forca Eolica do Brasil (Brazil) with 74.2MW from two contracts
  2. Vestas Mediterranean (Spain) with 54MW from one contract
