ContourGlobal has entered into an agreement with CATL for the supply of 3GWh of battery storage systems, intended for use in energy projects in the UK, Greece and Chile.
The contract covers a total of 526 containerised systems, each with a capacity of 5.64MWh and configured for four hours of continuous discharge.

The battery technology to be supplied is a liquid-cooling integrated system, using CATL’s lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cells.
According to ContourGlobal, the bundled supply arrangement allows it to match battery deliveries with developments in its project pipeline.
CATL’s systems feature built-in fire detection, suppression capabilities, and a management system that monitors cell ageing to support long-term operational performance.
The units are also designed to comply with European regulations on battery sustainability, including a commitment by CATL to recycle the batteries at the end of their operational life.

The storage units are designated for three projects.
ContourGlobal’s initial battery project in the UK is the recently acquired 500MW/2,000MWh Wallace standalone facility in Scotland.
In Greece, the Taxiarches project will utilise a 100MW/400MWh system.
Los Maitenes in Chile will combine 131MWp of photovoltaic capacity with 90MW/360MWh of battery storage.
Construction is underway at the Greek and Chilean sites, while the Scottish project is in advanced development.
ContourGlobal CEO Antonio Cammisecra said: “We are very proud to announce this framework agreement with CATL, one of the world’s leaders in BESS.
“Beyond equipment supply, we are establishing a standardised utility-scale BESS platform across multiple countries, enabling consistent engineering, testing, commissioning and long-term asset management.”
ContourGlobal said the new battery systems will enable its sites to offer future grid stability and, where required, grid-forming services. However, such functions are not yet widely recognised or remunerated under current regulatory frameworks.
The company already operates 3GWh of battery storage across Europe and the Americas, including projects in Bulgaria and Chile.
