Aquila Clean Energy’s assets include 1.6GW of operational, under construction and advanced development projects in Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, Japan and Taiwan.

The acquisition adds to ESR’s presence in the region and aligns closely with its logistics real estate and data centre operations.

Aquila Group CEO and co-founder Roman Rosslenbroich said: “I am very proud of what the Aquila Clean Energy APAC team has built: a clean energy platform spanning solar, wind and battery storage across the most attractive markets in Asia-Pacific.

“That ESR, one of the leading real asset owners in the region, has chosen to acquire this platform is a strong recognition of Aquila Group’s ability to attract talented management teams and build category-leading industrial platforms.

“ESR is a strong owner for this business, and I want to thank everyone who contributed to this success over the years.”

According to ESR, the acquisition will broaden its ability to provide capital partners and customers with investment opportunities across a growing range of real assets.

The transaction is subject to standard closing conditions and necessary approvals, with completion anticipated by the first quarter of 2027.

After finalising the purchase, ESR plans to work with the management team of Aquila Clean Energy to advance the platform’s growth and connect renewable energy capabilities with its broader Asia-Pacific operations.

The deal also extends ESR’s involvement in solar and battery storage projects, further supporting its ability to provide renewable energy investment opportunities.

ESR president Phil Pearce said: “ESR has entered its next phase of growth with a clear focus on the sectors that underpin resilient supply chains, digital economies and long-term economic development.

“As demand for logistics infrastructure, data centres and power becomes increasingly interconnected, we see significant opportunities at the intersection of these sectors, with energy infrastructure becoming an increasingly compelling area for long-term capital deployment.”
