Fotowatio Renewable Ventures (FRV), part of Jameel Energy, has announced its entry into the Finnish market by partnering with Finnish renewables developer Will & Must to develop 600MW of solar projects.

The move marks FRV’s first venture into the Nordic countries and aligns with Will & Must’s aim to prepare 1,000 hectares of land for solar use by 2027.

The partnership between FRV and Will & Must involves a framework development agreement focusing on photovoltaic projects.

The 600MW portfolio contains several projects at various planning stages, expected to be ready for construction between 2024 and 2026.

The Nordic countries are committed to increasing photovoltaics to complement their wind-driven energy systems.

FRV Europe managing director Andrea Fontana stated: “We are delighted to offer our international experience and expertise in a promising new market like Finland.  This is one of the most promising markets for renewable energy and we are convinced that our offer will be in high demand.”

Will & Must founding team Matti Parpala, Mikke Vepsäläinen and Anssi Voipio stated: “We are excitedly looking forward to cutting Finland’s emissions and rapidly boosting the overall green transition together with FRV, which brings to the emerging Finnish photovoltaic market an unparalleled amount of experience in large-scale projects.

“We also strive to develop the projects in close cooperation with different stakeholders. This way, we hope to demonstrate the benefits to local landowners and communities, which in turn should ensure social acceptance so that the projects can be efficiently constructed.”

In March 2024 FRV energised the Clay Tye battery energy storage system in Essex, UK with Harmony Energy.

The 99MW/198-megawatt hours system can supply power to 300,000 homes for two hours. It features Tesla Megapack batteries and Autobidder AI software.

FRV has been expanding its global footprint, constructing more than 50 renewable energy plants internationally. With a new project pipeline of 24GW, FRV is set to introduce more renewable energy solutions in Finland and other markets, including Italy, Spain, Greece, Poland and Chile.
