The annual Global Energy Talent Index survey of employment trends has revealed that professionals in the energy sector expect strong growth over the next three years, despite the Covid-19 pandemic.

The annual Global Energy Talent Index survey of employment trends has revealed that professionals in the energy sector expect strong growth over the next three years, despite the Covid-19 pandemic.

Of the power professionals interviewed for the survey, 39% remain optimistic of the sector’s prospects. In the past year, 67% said they believe the power sector has grown and 77% anticipate further growth in the next three years.

The report was compiled by energy recruiter Airswift and engineering jobsite Energy Jobline. It surveyed 16,000 energy professionals, hiring managers in oil and gas, renewables, power, nuclear and petrochemicals sectors across 166 countries.

Respondents agreed that Covid-19 presents a potential barrier to growth, with 56% saying they consider it to be biggest challenge faced by the power sector. However, 65% of professionals in the survey were confident that their firm was resilient to the changes it faces.

Airswift CEO Janette Marx said: “There is no denying that this has been a challenging year for the energy industry, and Covid-19-related instability is certainly being felt by the workforce. Yet, power professionals seem confident in their ability to rise to the challenges ahead.

“There is always room for improvement, so it is good to see companies responding to demand from the workforce to invest in automation and digital technologies to build additional resilience into the business.”

The report also offered an insight into salaries and mobility. Approximately 38% of professionals reported a pay increase in the last year, compared to 16% seeign a decrease this year.

Most power professionals (63%) and hiring managers (60%) expect a pay increase next year.

The GETI mobility study suggests that 80% of professionals would consider relocating to another region for their job.

The report indicated that the renewables and oil and gas sectors will be the biggest sources of competition for talent.
