Goldman Sachs and Barclays have emerged as the leading financial advisers for mergers and acquisitions (M&A) in the power sector during the first half of 2026 (H1 2026), according to GlobalData’s Financial Deals Database.

Goldman Sachs secured the top spot by deal value, advising on transactions worth $142.6bn. Barclays led by deal volume, working on a total of nine deals.

JPMorgan was ranked second by value, advising on $138.1bn in power sector deals.

Wells Fargo with $135.9bn, Bank of America with $124.9bn and Lazard with $110.2bn rounded out the top five.

In terms of deal count, Goldman Sachs followed Barclays with eight transactions.

Lazard, Morgan Stanley and Deloitte were also listed as advising on eight deals each.

GlobalData lead analyst Aurojyoti Bose said: “There was an improvement in the number of deals advised by Barclays in H1 2026 compared to H1 2025 and its ranking by volume improved from ninth to the top position. It also held the ninth position by value in H1 2026.

“Meanwhile, the total value of deals advised by Goldman Sachs increased by more than threefold in H1 2026 compared to H1 2025 due to its involvement in big-ticket deals.

“Resultantly, its ranking by value improved from fourth position in H1 2025 to the top position in H1 2026. Goldman Sachs advised on four billion-dollar deals in H1 2025, including a mega high-value deal valued at more than $100bn.”
