The Ełk and Turośń projects in north-eastern Poland have a combined capacity of 400MW/1.6GW-hours (GWh), with each facility providing 200MW and 800MW-hours.
The sites are among the largest battery energy storage projects in Poland and are intended to enhance grid flexibility, facilitate renewable energy integration and contribute to energy security.
Greenvolt Power M&A and project finance director Adrian Góralski said: “UniCredit has been a valued financing partner across different Greenvolt projects and markets, and this agreement builds on that relationship.
“It also reflects the growing confidence that lenders place in battery storage as a mature and bankable infrastructure asset, supporting the financing of increasingly large and complex projects.”
Turośń Kościelna was officially inaugurated in July 2026, while Ełk is scheduled to achieve commercial operation in the fourth quarter of this year.
The latest agreement builds on Greenvolt and UniCredit’s long-standing relationship, following earlier financing arrangements for utility-scale renewable energy projects across central and eastern Europe (CEE), including Poland, Romania and Hungary.
UniCredit managing director and infrastructure & export finance head for CEE Lazar Nikolic said: “Developing approximately 400MW of BESS capacity in Poland is a landmark achievement, and UniCredit is delighted to support Greenvolt and KKR with a customised €218m financing package, including both a bridge facility and a guarantee facility.
“This transaction, which highlights our partnership with Greenvolt across Europe, reinforces our strategic commitment to funding critical green infrastructure and accelerating the green transition, not only in Poland but across CEE.”
In February 2026, Greenvolt Power obtained a €348m financing package to support the construction of a 253.1MW wind project in Ialomița County, south-eastern Romania.
