Mitsubishi Power, a division of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries has secured an order from JSC Thermal Power Plants to supply a combined cycle gas turbine (GTCC) system for the Navoi 3 project in Uzbekistan.
The project will deliver 600MW of electricity and 200 gigacalories of heat. This is the third GTCC equipment order received by the Japanese company for the Navoi power plant.

The plant will begin commercial operations in 2026.
The Navoi 3 project will be situated 360km south-west of Tashkent. It follows the Navoi 1 and Navoi 2 power plants, which began operations in 2013 and 2019 respectively.
The new GTCC system will provide not only electricity, but also industrial steam and district heating to the Navoi FEZ.

Mitsubishi Power has previously received numerous orders for large-scale gas turbines including JAC and F series models for Uzbekistan.
This is the 13th order for a large-scale gas turbine and the fifth for a JAC series gas turbine in the country.
Mitsubishi Power’s market share for the large-scale gas turbine market in the country is now 90%.
In December 2023, the company partnered with Centrica for an ammonia-fired power plant in Cork, Ireland.
The two companies agreed to collaborate on the exploration, construction and operation of the facility at Bord Gáis Energy’s Whitegate combined cycle gas turbine power station.
The project aims to use low-carbon ammonia as a fuel source to generate power.
In October 2023, the company began operations at the PowerSouth Energy Co-operative’s 693MW Lowman Energy Center (LEC) in Leroy, Alabama, US.
The LEC project replaced the 556MW Charles R Lowman coal-fired power plant.
