Sikorsky Aircraft’s new combined heat and power cogeneration facility in Connecticut, US, has begun operations.

The $26m facility produces enough power to supply 84% of the company’s two-million-square-foot Stratford facility’s needs.

The new system is expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by more than 8,900t annually.

The company received a state cogeneration incentive grant of $4.66m for the project.

Sikorsky Aircraft, a subsidiary of United Technologies, provides helicopter design, manufacture and service.
