Seaway7 has completed the installation of all inner-array cables at the 1.4GW East Anglia Three offshore wind farm, a project jointly owned by ScottishPower Renewables and Masdar.

The final cable lay marks a significant point in the construction of the wind farm, which is located approximately 69km off the Suffolk coast in the North Sea.

The team installed 95 inner-array cables, totalling over 240km, loading, laying, and pulling them into the wind turbine foundations.

The work follows the earlier installation of all 95 monopile foundations and transition pieces, which was also carried out by Seaway7.

The company’s scope on the project covers both the foundations and the inner-array cables.

With the cable lay phase now finished, activities such as testing, trenching, and termination are ongoing as the remaining work on Seaway7’s contract progresses towards completion.

ScottishPower Renewables and Masdar are developing East Anglia Three as a part of the broader East Anglia Hub.

The wind farm covers an offshore area of approximately 305km² and will feature up to 100 wind turbines with a tip height of up to 262m and rotors from 230m in diameter.

The design also includes an offshore converter station and up to four subsea export cables.

Onshore, the development includes a landfall at Bawdsey and an underground cable route of more than 37km, which links the offshore installation to a converter station at Bramford and the National Grid Bramford substation.

Once operational, the wind farm is expected to use 95 Siemens Gamesa 14.7MW turbines to deliver around 1.4GW of renewable energy annually.

According to the developers, this output would be enough to supply power to approximately 1.3 million UK households per year.

The wind farm is designed to operate for up to 25 years.

Seaway7 was awarded the contract for foundation and cable installation in June 2023.

Earlier this month, SSE Renewables named Seaway7 preferred supplier of critical infrastructure for its 1.4GW Berwick Bank B offshore wind project in Scotland.
