The Taiwan Cogeneration Corporation (TCC) has secured an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract from Danish energy giant Ørsted to develop the onshore substation for the Greater Changhua 2b and 4 offshore wind farms.
Greater Changhua 2b and 4 will have a total capacity of 920MW and will be located between 35 and 60km off the Changhua coast.

This contract follows Ørsted’s final investment decision in March 2023.
TCC’s subsidiary, Star Energy Corporation, has been tasked with all the onshore deliverables including the transmission system’s design, engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning.
The scope of the EPC contract includes building a substation using pre-cast methods to maintain quality, all on-site health, safety and environment management and a high voltage 345kV electrical system.
The electrical system will then connect with Taipower’s grid.

Ørsted won Taiwan’s competitive price-based auction to build the Greater Changhua 2b and 4 offshore wind farms in June 2018.
Onshore construction is expected to begin in 2023 with the fabrication of components and is scheduled for completion by the end of 2025.
The company also signed a corporate power purchase agreement with the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company in July 2020, to supply the clean power generated from the wind farms.
