It is scheduled to begin after the commercial operation date and will run for an initial term of ten years, with an option to extend.
The Gennaker project, led by Skyborn Renewables, will become the largest offshore wind farm in the German Baltic Sea, with a planned output of up to 976.5MW.
The site will be situated around 15km north of the Fischland-Darß-Zingst peninsula in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
Once fully operational, the wind farm is expected to generate enough electricity each year to power around one million households.
This PPA marks Uniper’s first foray into purchasing electricity from an offshore wind source.
The move aligns with the company’s strategy to diversify its energy portfolio, expand its renewable energy supply and support Germany’s energy transition.
As part of its broader business strategy, Uniper plans to invest approximately €8bn ($9.09bn) in its portfolio through the early 2030s.
The company’s current holdings include flexible power generation, gas storage, renewables and hydrogen, with the addition of offshore wind intended to complement existing business areas.
Uniper CEO Michael Lewis said: “Concluding our first ever offshore wind PPA demonstrates our transformation strategy in action.
“Offshore wind from the German Baltic Sea will add domestically produced low-carbon power to our diverse portfolio.
“This is a deliberate step to strengthen the resilience of our energy system for the long term.”
Skyborn described Gennaker as its flagship project, highlighting its development, financing and operational expertise across the offshore wind value chain.
The company stated that the project serves as a blueprint for delivering large-scale, domestically produced electricity intended to support long-term energy security.
Skyborn CEO Patrick Lammers said: “This agreement with Uniper is an important milestone for Gennaker. As our blueprint project, it shows how large-scale offshore wind can be delivered reliably and at scale. I am extremely proud of our teams to make this happen.”
Earlier this month, Skyborn and Amazon signed an agreement for a 600MW PPA for electricity from the Gennaker offshore wind farm.
