Vestas to deliver wind turbines for project in Saudi Arabia

Danish wind turbine manufacturer Vestas has received a contract deliver wind turbines and maintenance services for 415MW wind megaproject in Saudi Arabia's Al Jouf.

Danish wind turbine manufacturer Vestas has received a contract to deliver wind turbines and maintenance services for a 415MW wind project in the Al Jouf region of Saudi Arabia.

The order for the Dumat Al Jandal windfarm has been awarded by a consortium of France’s EDF Renewables and Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar). The windfarm will be Saudi Arabia’s first utility-scale wind park.

Vestas will supply and install 99 V150-4.2MW wind turbines and has also signed a 20-year active output management 4000 (AOM 4000) service agreement for the operation and maintenance of the wind park.

The EDF-Masdar consortium obtained the Dumat Al Jandal project in January 2019 from the Renewable Energy Project Development Office (REPDO), which is part of the Saudi Ministry of Energy, Industry and Mineral Resources (MEIM).

Once operational, the Dumat Al Jandal windfarm will produce electricity under a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with the Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC).

The contract is part of the first phase of Saudi Arabia’s plan to install 7GW of wind capacity within five years, and 16GW by 2030.
