Renewable energy company Adani Power has won a 25-year contract to supply 1,500MW of electricity to the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.

The contract was secured through a competitive bidding process and involves the supply of power from a new 1,600MW thermal power project in the state.

The Uttar Pradesh cabinet, led by chief minister Yogi Adityanath, approved the procurement from the upcoming facility, underscoring the state's commitment to long-term energy planning.

Uttar Pradesh Minister of Energy AK Sharma told ANI: "We decided to purchase a total of 1500 MW (ex-bus) power from a 2x800 MW (1600 MW) thermal power project based on competitive bidding. Under this, seven companies came forward and participated in the bidding processes. Adani Power Ltd has won a contract to supply 1500 megawatts from a thermal power plant in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh at Rs 5.383 per unit.”

Sharma highlighted the state's anticipated need for an additional 10,795MW of thermal power by 2033/34.

The tender, released in October 2024, called for bids for power supply from the planned thermal project, as reported by The Times of India.

Adani Power emerged as the successful bidder, offering a fixed charge of Rs 3.727 per unit and a fuel charge of Rs 1.656 per unit, culminating in the total tariff of Rs 5.383 per unit.

On 30 April 2025, Adani Power disclosed its power generation figures for the financial year 2024/25, which showed a 19.5% increase to 102.2 billion units, up from 85.5 billion units in the previous year.

The company reported a 20.7% rise in consolidated power sales volume, reaching 95.9 billion units for the financial year 2024/25, driven by the heightened demand for power and improved operational capacity.

Adani Power's consolidated continuing total revenue grew by 10.8% to Rs 564.73bn in 2024-25, up from Rs 509.6bn in the previous year, reflecting the higher sales volumes despite a partial offset from lower tariff realisation.

Adani Power, a part of the diversified Adani Group, has a power generation capacity of 17,510MW from thermal power plants in Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu, and a 40MW solar power project in Gujarat.
