Blue Elephant Energy (BEE) has agreed to acquire a 381MW onshore wind portfolio in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in northern Germany from Rostock-based WIND-projekt.

The acquisition will increase Blue Elephant Energy’s wind power capacity in the country to 533MW, a three-and-a-half-fold rise.

Upon completion, the company’s total portfolio will reach 2.1GW, with wind accounting for approximately 25% of its overall assets.

The portfolio involved in the deal includes 37 operational wind farms providing 260MW. It also has four wind developments under construction with a combined capacity of 46MW, scheduled for commissioning in 2026.

Three more sites totalling 75MW are also part of the deal and are due to be transferred to BEE at the start of their construction phase. These wind farms are expected to come online in 2027.

The projected annual output of the overall portfolio is sufficient to supply electricity to approximately 33,000 households.

The wind farms operate under the Renewable Energy Sources Act and offer long-term potential for repowering.

WIND-projekt transaction lead Stephan Eckermann said: “We are delighted to have found a strong partner in BEE with green DNA that suits us perfectly.

“In the future, we want to continue working together as a service provider in the technical and commercial management of BEE, as well as in the implementation of upcoming projects, and grow together as partners.”

BEE was established in 2016, and focuses on solar, wind and battery storage across Europe.

Regulatory approval from authorities including the German Federal Cartel Office is required before final closing, which is anticipated in the first quarter of 2026.

BEE chief investment officer Tim Kallas said: “With this acquisition, we are securing a high-quality portfolio and tripling our wind portfolio in one of our core markets.

“Beyond this transaction, we are planning further collaborations with WIND-projekt and look forward to continuing our cooperation.”

Since its inception, BEE has built a project pipeline amounting to 9.5GW, alongside its installed capacity.
