Dutch marine engineering company Royal Boskalis, in partnership with TKF Subsea Solutions, has secured a sizeable contract from OWP Gennaker to supply and install inter-array cables at the Gennaker Offshore Wind Farm in the German Baltic Sea.

The company describes a sizeable contract as having a value between €50m ($59.01m) and €150m.

The agreement involves the provision of around 140km of 66kV cables, which will connect 63 wind turbine generators within the wind farm.

TKF will manufacture these cables in the Netherlands, and Boskalis will utilise its cable-laying vessel, the BOKA Ocean, to install them by the end of 2027.

The project is set to produce 3.19GWh of electricity and will cover an area of 185km².

The Gennaker Offshore Wind Farm is set to become the largest in the German Baltic Sea, with a planned capacity of 976.5MW.

It is expected to provide clean energy to around one million households upon its commissioning in 2028.

Boskalis is engaged in activities at the site through its subsidiary Heinrich Hirdes EOD Services, which is conducting a campaign to identify and clear unexploded ordnance using its UXO vessel the Kamara.

Boskalis' involvement in this project aligns with its strategy to capitalise on macro-economic trends such as global economic expansion, rising energy consumption, population growth and climate change challenges.
