DEME has secured offshore wind installation contracts in Poland for the BC-Wind project, marking a major step in the nation’s energy transition.

These contracts cover the installation of monopile foundations, inter-array cables, and the export cable at the BC-Wind offshore wind farm, situated approximately 23km off the Polish Baltic Sea coast.

Developed by Ocean Winds, a joint venture (JV) between EDP Renewables and ENGIE, BC-Wind is planned to have a capacity of around 390MW.

The wind farm is projected to supply clean electricity to approximately 500,000 households annually.

DEME Offshore Energy managing director Hugo Bouvy said: “We are proud to contribute to Poland’s offshore wind ambitions and to continue our collaboration with Ocean Winds.

“This project builds on a proven partnership where our teams have consistently delivered complex offshore wind scopes together. With BC-Wind, we aim to bring the same level of precision, reliability, and shared commitment to Poland’s energy transition.”

DEME’s offshore installation vessel Orion will be used to install a total of 27 monopile foundations, of which 26 are for wind turbines and one is for the offshore substation.

Orion is equipped with a motion compensated pile gripper, a 5,000 tonne crane, and advanced ballasting systems.

The contracts for the inter-array and export cables encompass the entire scope, from engineering to installation.

The export cable contract will be executed via a consortium with Hellenic Cables.

DEME will employ its cable installation vessels Living Stone and Viking Neptun for these works.

Installation activities are planned to take place in 2027 and 2028.

These contracts further reinforce DEME’s partnership with Ocean Winds, building on past results on offshore wind projects such as Moray East and Moray West in Scotland, and Dieppe-Le Tréport and Noirmoutier in France.

Ocean Winds BC-Wind project director Pete Geddes said: “With financial close now completed, we are pleased to see the BC-Wind project progressing to the installation phase.

"DEME’s expertise in foundation and cable installation will be key to delivering this 390MW offshore wind farm safely, efficiently, and on schedule, supporting Poland’s energy transition.”

Earlier in September, DEME, through its JV CDWE in Taiwan, won a major contract for the Formosa 4 offshore wind farm.
