Canadian Solar’s energy storage solutions business, e-STORAGE, and Sunraycer have announced a collaboration to supply and maintain battery energy storage projects in Franklin County, Texas, US.

The stand-alone Lupinus projects, totalling 503 megawatt-hours (MWh) direct current, consist of Lupinus 1, a 202MWh storage facility, and Lupinus 2, a 301MWh facility.

Construction of Lupinus 1 is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2027 (Q1 2027), with commercial operations expected by Q3 of the same year.

Lupinus 2 is set to begin construction in Q3 2026, with operations beginning in Q2 2027.

e-STORAGE will deliver its SolBank 3.0 battery energy storage system (BESS) for these projects, alongside providing ten years of long-term services focusing on system reliability, performance optimisation and maintaining availability throughout the life cycle of the projects.

The battery cells included in the system are part of Canadian Solar's global manufacturing network, which aims to support supply chain resilience and operational reliability.

The Lupinus energy storage projects are intended to support renewable energy integration and improve grid stability in the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) market.

Through the partnership, e-STORAGE and Sunraycer aim to develop secure and scalable energy storage solutions, which are crucial for creating a more adaptable power grid.

Sunraycer CEO David Lillefloren said: “Partnering with e-STORAGE on the Lupinus projects represents a significant step forward in Sunraycer's mission to advance sustainable energy infrastructure across Texas and beyond.

“These projects both strengthen the reliability of the ERCOT grid and underscore the critical role of battery storage in supporting the clean energy transition.”

Canadian Solar has delivered nearly 170GW of solar photovoltaic (PV) modules worldwide over the past 24 years. Its subsidiary, e-STORAGE, had shipped more than 16 gigawatt-hours of battery energy storage solutions globally as of 30 September 2025.

In April 2025, e-STORAGE secured a contract from power generation company Colbún to supply a 228MW/912MWh BESS for the Diego de Almagro Sur project in the Atacama region of Chile.
