Entergy partners with MHI Group on road map to cut costs by 50%

The partnership will focus on integrating MHI Group’s gas turbine and CCS technologies at Entergy’s power generation facilities.

Entergy and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) Group have entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to develop a strategy aimed at reducing costs by 50%.

The agreement involves MHI Group companies Mitsubishi Heavy Industries America (MHIA) and Mitsubishi Power Americas.

It is designed to advance the deployment and commercialisation of carbon capture and storage (CCS) and gas turbine combined cycle (GTCC) technology for power generation.

The planned collaboration will focus on integrating MHI Group’s gas turbine and CCS technologies at Entergy’s power generation facilities.

Mitsubishi Power Americas president and CEO Bill Newsom said: “Achieving meaningful decarbonisation will require more than breakthrough technologies – it will require strong partnerships that make those technologies commercially viable.

“This collaboration reflects our commitment to advancing practical decarbonisation solutions that support both energy reliability and economic growth.”

Entergy’s operations are in proximity to the largest carbon dioxide (CO₂) pipeline network in the US, and the region’s geological formations are described as well-suited for the long-term storage of captured CO₂.

MHI Group’s contribution will include M501JAC gas turbines from Mitsubishi Power Americas and carbon capture technology from MHIA.

The companies intend to use this integrated approach to deliver a standardised solution that improves project economics.

Entergy said that the MoU aligns with its customers’ need for energy that is reliable, affordable and has a lower carbon footprint.

The aim is to support the decarbonisation of electricity while reducing costs for the wider industry as these technologies develop.

Entergy COO Kimberly Cook-Nelson said: “Entergy is a customer-centric company, growing to meet our customers’ needs. Scale, strong partnerships and standardisation are keys to success.

“We are dedicated to providing reliable, affordable, clean power for our customers and communities because that is what they are asking us for.

“MHI Group has been an incredible business partner, and we look forward to more opportunities ahead.”

The partnership builds on a long-standing relationship between Entergy and Mitsubishi Power Americas following the expansion of a GTCC programme and forms the basis for further developments in carbon capture.

The agreement is positioned as a step towards broader adoption of CCS within the energy sector.

In November 2025, Mitsubishi Power secured a second order for an H-25 gas turbine to be installed at Chang Chun Petrochemical’s Miaoli Factory in north-central Taiwan.
