Fermi America leases GE turbines for Texas HyperGrid project

The turbines are scheduled to begin operation in early 2026.

Tracey November 03 2025

Fermi America has signed a long-term capital lease agreement with Mobile Power Solutions (MPS) for seven GE TM2500 gas turbines, totalling 157.5MW of nameplate capacity, expanding its natural gas platform within Project Matador – the company’s 11GW private HyperGrid campus in Texas.

The turbines are scheduled for delivery in the fourth quarter of 2025 and will begin operation in early 2026 as part of Fermi’s initial 500MW of generation capacity. The mobile TM2500 units, with their high efficiency and rapid deployment, will provide flexible, dispatchable power as the company advances its integrated energy strategy combining natural gas, nuclear, solar and battery storage.

The agreement, signed in partnership with the Texas Tech University System, establishes a 20-year collaboration between Fermi America and Mobile Power Solutions. Both parties plan further turbine acquisitions as part of ongoing efforts to reinforce US grid reliability and energy independence.

Fermi co-founder and CEO Toby Neugebauer said the deal reflects the company’s drive to meet the growing demands of AI infrastructure and US industry. He emphasised that Fermi’s energy platform is designed to bolster national resilience and competitiveness.

MPS CEO Juan Pablo Elias said the TM2500’s rapid deployment and proven reliability make it an ideal technology for strengthening Fermi’s power portfolio. He added that the collaboration supports the broader goal of delivering reliable, fast-track power wherever and whenever needed to maintain a strong US energy system.
