Great British Energy expands supply chain fund to 29 critical components

The programme targets investment into the supply chains for offshore wind and electricity networks.

UK state-owned company Great British Energy (GBE) has widened the scope of its $396m (£300m) Supply Chain Fund: Offshore Wind and Networks by increasing the number of eligible critical components from 12 to 29.

This change offers more UK manufacturers the opportunity to receive capital grant funding to bolster domestic manufacturing capacity for the clean energy sector.

The programme, which launched on 11 December 2025, targets investment into the supply chains for offshore wind and electricity networks.

The application window for this funding will remain open until 10 December 2026, or until the funding is fully allocated.

Grants must be drawn down between April 2026 and March 2030.

The latest update means manufacturers working with a broader range of specialised components used in both offshore wind turbines and electricity networks can now apply for support.

Components newly covered by the fund include jackets, gearboxes, generators, and power converters for wind turbines, as well as converter valves, high-voltage bushings, and equipment for heating, ventilation and air conditioning substations and high-voltage direct current converter stations.

GBE supply chain interim director Rob Gilbert said: “This expansion reflects what we are hearing from industry and is an important step in delivering our Energy Engineered in the UK ambition to build domestic manufacturing capability, unlock investment and ensure the benefits of clean energy are felt across the country.”

The Supply Chain Fund forms a central part of the company’s £1bn Energy Engineered in the UK programme, which aims to unlock further investment in clean energy supply chains and create skilled jobs, particularly in UK industrial clusters.

The expansion follows consultation with industry stakeholders and aims to address constraints at multiple levels of the supply chain.

Growth in demand for components in the offshore wind and electricity networks sectors has caused bottlenecks, higher costs, longer delivery times and delays for critical infrastructure projects.

GBE has invited manufacturers, trade bodies and industry stakeholders to suggest further components for inclusion via a new submission process.

The list of eligible components will remain under review to respond to changing market conditions and supply chain needs.

Updated scheme guidance has also been published, clarifying grant intensity and evidence requirements for applicants.

Applicants are required to demonstrate anticipated employment impacts as part of their submissions, with the fund’s objectives including increasing manufacturing capacity, supporting jobs and promoting shorter or greener supply chains.
