Ingeteam is acting as technology partner on one of Italy’s largest battery energy storage projects, a 200MW/800MW-hour facility designed to strengthen the stability and flexibility of the national grid. The project is being billed as a benchmark for the European storage sector and a key step in Italy’s energy transition programme.
As part of the build, Ingeteam supplied 54 plug‑and‑play medium‑voltage power stations, each containing two storage inverters, a medium‑voltage transformer, switchgear and an auxiliary services panel. The company also provided seven power distribution units and advanced Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition and Power Plant Controller systems with machine‑learning (ML) capabilities that can perform predictive analysis of plant components and continuously monitor the health of individual battery cells.
Stefano Domenicali, vice-president and managing director of Ingeteam Italia, said the project marks a turning point in the company’s involvement in Italy’s energy transition, highlighting the company’s role in developing home‑grown, European‑manufactured energy storage infrastructure.
The system is intended to help absorb fluctuations from variable renewables, manage peak demand and enhance grid resilience, supporting a more secure and decarbonised power network.
