A joint venture between PGE and Ørsted, the developer of the 1.5GW Polish offshore wind farm Baltica 2, has selected Navantia-Windar and Orient Cable (NBO) as suppliers for the project.

The two companies will supply foundations and inter-array cables for the first stage of the wind farm, to be located 25km off the coast.

Navantia-Windar will provide monopile foundations, the largest of which will be more than 100m in length and weigh more than 2,000t.

Orient Cable (NBO) will supply 170km of 55kV subsea array cables that will connect each of the wind turbines with the offshore substations.

PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna management board president Wojciech Dąbrowski stated: “By signing contracts for the wind turbine generators for Baltica 2 earlier in April, we have started a series of agreements that are crucial for the development of the project.

“Securing components for Baltica 2 will allow us to continue with the next phases of the project's development. Our planned actions consistently bring us closer to achieving the strategic goal of the PGE Group which is developing 2.5 GW in offshore wind capacity by 2030.”

Siemens Gamesa was chosen as the supplier of wind turbines in April 2023.

In May 2023, a consortium of Biuro Studiów, Projektów i Realizacji (Energoprojekt‐Katowice) and Energopomiar was selected as the contract engineer for the project’s land connection.

Scheduled for completion by the end of 2027, Baltica 2 forms the first phase of the Baltic offshore wind farm project.

The second stage, Baltica 3, is expected to be operational by the end of 2029.

Together, Baltica 2 and 3 will generate 2.5GW of clean energy, enough to power four million Polish homes.
