Shanghai Electric and Siemens have signed a framework agreement to accelerate the green digital power grid transformation, focusing on low- and medium-voltage power system equipment to help achieve China’s dual-carbon goals.

The agreement for the 'Intelligent grid - new-type medium- and low-voltage power system equipment procurement project' was formalised at the 8th China International Import Expo.

The two companies will drive market expansion, green transformation, and intelligent upgrades under the agreement.

The collaboration aims to deliver mutual benefits and establish projects for a sustainable power grid.

Shanghai Electric Group president Zhu Zhaokai said: “Shanghai Electric and Siemens share a longstanding partnership built on decades of trust and joint ventures. This agreement marks a new milestone in our cooperation and an important step toward building intelligent, green energy systems.

“We look forward to deepening collaboration with Siemens to create benchmark projects for a greener power grid.”

Siemens Energy highlighted China’s central role in the global energy transition and reaffirmed its commitment to the partnership with Shanghai Electric.

The two companies will focus on developing high-end equipment and integrated solutions to deliver additional 'lighthouse projects' for a sustainable energy future.

For more than three decades, Shanghai Electric and Siemens have maintained close technological collaboration and market cooperation, according to a news release.

Together both the companies have jointly contributed to China's power transmission and distribution sector.

In April 2025, they signed a strategic cooperation agreement to advance power transmission and distribution, digitalisation, and low-carbon initiatives.

In July 2025, Siemens Energy's executive board member Karim Amin visited to discuss energy technology synergy, system integration, and global market development.

The new agreement is set to further accelerate the green transformation of the power system industry, reinforce Shanghai Electric’s leadership in transmission and distribution equipment, and create new opportunities for international cooperation.

In September this year, Siemens Energy begun the expansion of its transformer manufacturing facility in Nuremberg, Germany, in response to the rising global demand for large transformers essential for grid expansion.
