Finnish state-owned enterprise Metsähallitus has awarded Germany’s Skyborn Renewables exclusive rights to develop the 2GW Pooki offshore wind farm close to the Finnish coast in the Baltic Sea.

The duo signed a reservation agreement, which offers Skyborn exclusive rights to conduct preparatory surveys in the area for five years.

The company has already secured a legally binding land-use plan and a water permit for the project.

Metsähallitus property development director Tuomas Hallenberg stated: ”Finland is committed to expanding the capacity of emission-free energy through the rapid deployment of offshore wind. We welcome Skyborn Renewables to contribute to this development and strengthen fossil-free energy production in the country.”

Pooki will be located close to the former Suurhiekka project in Bothnian Bay in Finnish territory, 25km from the shore in an average water depth of 20m.

This offshore wind project will be powered by 100 turbines and generate 2GW of clean energy.

Skyborn Renewables CEO Thomas Karst stated: “We are honoured to have secured this exclusive five-year reservation agreement to develop Pooki offshore wind farm. It is a significant milestone for Skyborn and reinforces our confidence in the potential of offshore wind in Finland.

“Working alongside Metsähallitus, we are excited about this opportunity to participate in Finland's transition towards a renewable future.”
