Urenco has signed an agreement with EDF to supply uranium enrichment services for nuclear power plants (NPPs) across France and the UK. The 15-year multibillion-euro contract will enable Urenco to support EDF’s nuclear fleet into the 2040s. The deal was initially announced in July.

"This deal represents an enormous step forward for energy security in Europe at a time when it has never been so important in the geopolitical landscape,” said Urenco CEO Boris Schucht. “I am grateful to our long-term partner EDF for once again placing their trust in Urenco."

Urenco is a member of the Sizewell C Consortium, a new nuclear power station project in the UK led by EDF and the UK Government. EDF holds a 12.5% stake in the project. Urenco is also involved in EDF's efforts to recycle used nuclear fuel by providing enrichment services for recovered uranium.

EDF Business Solutions supplies Urenco's UK site via a low-carbon electricity contract, supporting Urenco's sustainability goals. The companies have also collaborated on research and development projects such as the HyDUS (Hydrogen in Depleted Uranium Storage) project, which is developing a hydrogen storage solution using Urenco's depleted uranium byproduct.

Urenco is one-third owned by the UK Government, one-third by the Dutch Government and one-third by two German utilities (E.ON and RWE). EDF is wholly owned by the French Government. In the UK, EDF manages several nuclear power stations and is leading the construction of the Hinkley Point C NPP and the development of the Sizewell C NPP.
