NRG Energy has completed the acquisition of the Cottonwood Generating Station in East Texas, US, from Kelson Limited Partnership.

Initially, the 1,279MW natural gas-fuelled plant will support 600MW of new load NRG contracts in Arkansas and East Texas and will reduce cycling stress on the firm’s Big Cajun II coal units.

NRG Energy’s South Central Region president Jeff Baudier Cottonwood gives us the ability to follow South Central customer load economically with modern, efficient and flexible generation.

The station consists of natural gas-fuelled combined cycle turbines and is capable of powering more than one million homes.
