Scottish firm Simec Atlantis Energy, working with ITPEnergised, the China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation, and China Three Gorges, has installed a 500kW tidal stream turbine between two islands in the Zhoushan archipelago in China, despite Covid-19 uncertainty.

The new ‘mammoth’ tidal turbine, aiming to use China’s stream renewable power potential, has a rotor diameter of 18m and has been developed and deployed in less than 18 months.
