Solvina - Power Plant Control and Systems Engineering

Solvina provides know-how and methods to create enhanced performance and availability in the process and power industry. We cover process control, power system analysis, power plant control, protection coordination, energy optimization, EMF reduction and systems engineering.

SYSTEMS ENGINEERING

By using advanced methods for systems engineering, project management and dynamic analysis / simulation, our customers gain higher energy-efficiency, lesser disturbances and higher productivity.

Solvina provides the best value from your investments in modernization and purchase of new plants and equipment. By contributing to the whole chain from technical specifications to commissioning, we have the ability to assure the best value for our customers. We provide the following services:

  • Project management
  • Systems engineering
  • Conceptual design
  • Dynamic performance requirements
  • Tender evaluation
  • Control design and tuning
  • Commissioning
  • Training of plant operators and engineering staff

ENERGY AND PROCESS ENGINEERING

Our fields of energy optimization services cover power, heat and process systems in power plants, power grids, pulp and paper, and process industry. We are involved in steam boilers / systems, turbines, I&C-systems, island operation testing and optimization etc.

We use modern simulation techniques for trouble shooting, control design and tuning, training and commissioning. We also deliver customized simulators for training and development.

PROCESS CONTROL OPTIMIZATION

The following engineering services are examples of what we do in the process industry.

  • Process control and simulation
  • Steam balance calculations
  • Control design and tuning of steam systems and boilers
  • Energy optimization
  • Measurements and trouble shooting

We provide both advanced theoretical analysis and hands-on changes and tuning of control loops.

ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING

Solvina performs advanced electrical engineering services within power grids, power plants and process industries in order to achieve better availability and efficiency. We use modern and advanced simulation tools and perform different type of services like:

  • Dynamic system studies (stability)
  • Protection coordination and selectivity analysis
  • Emergency power analysis
  • Transient and steady-state fault analysis
  • Measurements and trouble shooting
  • Island operation development and testing*

* Solvina has developed unique simulator-based test equipment, SolvSim® Power Station which enables island operation testing and governor tuning in a safe and realistic way with the machine still in synchronized mode. In addition we develop black start strategies and simulator for operator training and training programmes.

PROTECTION COORDINATION

Among our systems engineering services, Solvina also offers protection coordination and selectivity analysis for electrical power systems.

POWER PLANT CONTROL

Within the power plant control segment we are involved in both utility systems like steam systems and the production processes, paper machines and chemical processes.

NUCLEAR POWER PLANT ANALYSIS

Solvina has several specialists within the nuclear power industry and are deeply engaged in the power system analysis as well as the upgrade and refurbishment projects in the Swedish nuclear power plants. Specific nuclear related services are:

  • Power system analysis and simulations
  • Development and improvements of control system design and tuning (I&C systems)
  • System analysis and design. Analysis are e.g. performed in the following areas; diversification, common cause failure, defence-in-depth, critical safety functions, fail safe, and emergency and auxiliary power supply
  • Requirement analysis and management
  • Support with licensing or safety demonstration support for plant modifications and upgrades
  • Development and update of safety analysis reports (SAR / FSAR) and technical specifications (STF)
  • Interpretation and application of standards and guidelines such as IEC (6)1226 for safety classification, IEC (6)1346 for structuring of functions and products, and ISO 9001 and 10007 for configuration management
  • Protection coordination and selectivity analysis for electrical power systems
  • Business engineering, design and implementation of working processes
  • Project management and technical coordination
  • Human factors engineering (HFE/HSI/MMI) and training
