Island and in-house operation testing and development

During power system disturbances and interrupted power supply, a power plant can continue running if it can transfer to island or in-house operation and its island operation capability is sufficient. However, as conditions can be tough and sensitive, islanding is complicated. Performing a black start can be even tougher.

Solvina has unique experiences and knowledge of island and in-house operation. Our test methodology, using the real-time simulator SolvSim® Power Station, enables safe island and in-house operation testing and development.

Real-time simulator for island operation testing and governor tuning

Solvina offers a unique simulator-based piece of test equipment used for testing island operation performance in a safe way.

SolvSim Power Station is used for testing power turbines' island operation capabilities. The unique test method makes it possible to test island operation capability while the generator is synchronized to the main grid. This is an advantage since the operation of the electric island is not risked during the test. During the test, adjustments can be made to ensure good island operation performance. When island operation capability has been confirmed, the turbine is ready for running the electric island on its own.

For many power plants and industries, island operation can be of great importance in order to avoid power outage or voltage disturbances from the main grid.

Power system analysis

Using modern simulation tools, Solvina performs power system analysis and can achieve an overview and a clear structure of the system. For instance, we calculate correct relay protection settings to ensure selectivity and correct tripping.
