German electric utility company clearvise and ABO Wind, a renewables developer, are currently working together to repower two French wind farms, doubling their capacity to more than 110MW.

clearvise and ABO Wind will repower the Cuq and Losheim wind farms, which currently have a total capacity of 53MW. Permits are expected to be secured in 2025.

The old systems will be dismantled and replaced with new, quieter and more powerful turbines. The installed capacity of the two wind farms will be 110MW.

The number of turbines is also expected to be reduced, requiring less maintenance and simplifying the spare parts procurement process.

The two companies initially analysed the potential for repowering wind farms in France and decided to go ahead with the plan. They have also extended their repowering cooperation to four more French wind farms: Gargasse, Escamps, Haute Landes Souilly and St Nicholas.

ABO Wind is responsible for project development, approval planning and construction, while clearvise will receive the exclusive right of first refusal on the new, repowered wind farms.

clearvise CEO Petra Leue-Bahns stated: “With ABO Wind, we have a reliable and fair development partner at our side who has excellent regional networks. ABO Wind has already developed the old parks and takes care of them for us in the operational management. The cooperation is professional and at eye level. We are very much looking forward to implementing this extensive project together.”

Back in 2018, ABO Wind partnered with Bürgerwindaktie to repower the Wennerstorf wind farm, more than doubling its capacity.
