Pilgrim International Ltd has won a contract by Framatome SAS for the design and supply of Stud Tensioning devices for the Steam Generator and Pressurizer openings as part of Framatome’s supply and construction of two EPR at Hinkley Point C Nuclear Power Plant.

As part of the zero-emissions target by 2050, the UK Government approved the construction of the new EPR type power plant in Somerset, which will be the first new nuclear power plant to be added to the National Grid since the mid-1990s and is planned to be commissioned some time in 2026.

Damian Lewis, General Manager and Director at Pilgrim, said: “This is a landmark project for our business and it’s a great honour to be selected for this important UK project, especially as we are also UK based. I would especially like to thank Framatome for their co-operation and support through the lengthy tendering phase and we are excited to work in partnership with them.”

Didier Declerck, Global Product Manager Tensioning systems at Pilgrim, added: “We have a strong history of supplying high integrity joint solutions into the nuclear energy sector, through both the Pilgrim or HYDROCAM brands and we were able to demonstrate to Framatome our expertise when supplying stud tensioning with remote control pumping and wireless condition monitoring systems.”

The contract includes multi-tensioner units with conditioning monitoring, remote-controlled hydraulic power pack and control units to enable homogeneous tightening remotely. The design work will commence immediately to ensure the 2022 planned delivery for the first unit.
