British Antarctic Survey (BAS), a component of the Natural Environment Research Council (UKRI-NERC), delivers and enables world-leading interdisciplinary research in the Polar Regions. It’s skilled science and support staff based in Cambridge, Antarctica and the Arctic, work together to deliver research that uses the Polar Regions to advance our understanding of Earth and our impact on it.

Elmeridge have been asked to supply a second continuous length of 10,000 metres of a CTD (Conductivity, Temperature, and Depth) cable for the RRS Sir David Attenborough.

BAS have again chosen Elmeridge as their preferred cable supplier. BAS stipulated that the cable must be supplied as the original cable, with only a thin coating of mineral oil on the outer armour layer, which prevents slippage on the winch. Elmeridge use PP (polypropylene) instead of HDPE

(High Density Polyetheylene), which guarantees greater flexibility, longevity and eliminates hardening and cracking, so the cable lasts longer in service.

Despite current pressures of rapidly rising material costs and availability, Elmeridge have adapted to the many worldwide issues. By working with a number of long-term partners, we are able achieve shorter lead times with competitive prices.

Elmeridge Cables Limited have been leaders in the production and distribution of custom-made cables since 1987, supplying a wide range of low, medium and high voltage special cables and stock items to a growing worldwide market.
