The value marked a decrease of 57.01% over the previous month and a drop of 59.2% when compared with the last 12-month average of $11.62bn.

In terms of number of deals, the sector saw a drop of 19.3% over the last 12-month average with 121 deals against the average of 150 deals.

In value terms, North America led the activity with deals worth $1.75bn.

Power industry deals in August 2019: Top deals

The top five power deals accounted for 58.3% of the overall value during August 2019.

The combined value of the top five power deals stood at $2.76bn, against the overall value of $4.74bn recorded for the month.

The top five power industry deals of August 2019 tracked by GlobalData were:

1) Advanced Drainage Systems’ $1.08bn acquisition of Infiltrator Water Technologies

2) The $475m acquisition of Ambit Energy Holdings by Vistra Energy

3) Diodes’ $428m acquisition of Lite-On Semiconductor

4) The $420m acquisition of Zona Franca Celsia by EnfraGen

5) Power Grid’s asset transaction with Transmission System for $358.15m.
