Island Operation Testing to Optimise Turbine Frequency Control

Few units are equipped with proper controllers and even fewer have ever been tested. In 1999 Solvina developed test equipment for that purpose, the SolvSim Power Station, SSPS.

The method developed is able to evaluate the frequency control capability of a production unit, determine stability margins, find reasons for any malfunction and support control parameter tuning.

All tests are performed during normal operation, without disconnecting from the transmission grid.
