Europe power industry contracts in March 2021: Spain leads activity

Looking at contracts by country, Spain led the activity in March 2021 with 16 contracts and a share of 16.2%, up 12.7% over the previous month and up 78% when compared with the last 12 month-average, followed by Poland with 11 contracts and a share of 11.1% and Sweden with nine contracts and a share of 9.1% during the month.

Looking at the last 12-month average, France held the top spot with 44 contracts, followed by the UK with 19 and Germany with 13 contracts.

Wind is top technology area for contracts in March 2021

Looking at contracts divided by the type of technology, wind accounted for the largest proportion with 53 contracts and a 57.6% share, followed by solar with 30 contracts and a 32.6% share and hydro with three contracts and a 3.3% share.

Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment in Europe as tracked by GlobalData, Generation Equipment was the most popular segment in March 2021, with 43 contracts, followed by Electricity Procurement (22) and Power Plant (15).

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 51 contracts and a 51.5% share
  2. Power Purchase Agreement: 21 contracts and a 21.2% share
  3. Project Implementation: 18 contracts and an 18.2% share
  4. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: five contracts and a 5.1% share
  5. Consulting & Similar Services: two contracts and a 2% share
  6. Electricity Supply: one contract and a 1% share
  7. Others: one contract and a 1% share.

Power contracts in March 2021: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Europe were:

  1. Instituto para la Diversificacion y el Ahorro de la Energia (Spain): 193.82MW from four contracts
  2. Galp Energia SGPS (Portugal): 144MW from one contract
  3. Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy (Albania): 100MW capacity from one contract.

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Europe were:

  1. Voltalia (France): 200MW from three contracts
  2. Jayme da Costa – Mecanica e Electricidade (Portugal): 144MW from one contract
  3. Total Quadran (France): 80MW capacity from one contract.
