Global power industry contracts in April 2022: Thermal technology down 8%

Thermal technology contracts activity in April 2022 saw 22 contracts announced, marking a drop of 8% over the last 12-month average of 24, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

Gas was the top category in thermal technology in terms of number of contracts for the month, accounting for 11 contracts and a 57.9% share, followed by Coal with five contracts and a 26.3% share. Oil stood in third place with three contracts and a 15.8% share.

Looking at global power contracts activity divided by the type of technology, thermal held the third position in terms of number of contracts during April 2022 with a 9.1% share.

The proportion of contracts by category in the Thermal technology tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: eight contracts and a 36.4% share
  2. Project Implementation: six contracts and a 27.3% share
  3. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: three contracts and a 13.6% share
  4. Consulting & Similar Services: three contracts and a 13.6% share
  5. Power Purchase Agreement: two contracts and a 9.1% share.

Asia-Pacific leads thermal contracts activity in April 2022

Comparing contracts activity in thermal technology in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with nine contracts and a share of 40.9% during April 2022, followed by Middle East and Africa with six contracts and a 27.3% share and North America with five contracts and a 22.7% share.

In fourth place was Europe with two contracts and a 9.1% share.

The top issuers of contracts in Thermal technology for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Jinneng Holding Shanxi Electric Power (China): 2,000MW from one contract
  2. Nigerian Malatex Global Services: 200MW from one contract
  3. Proton Technologies Canada: 4.2MW capacity from one contract.

Thermal technology contracts in April 2022: Top winners by capacity

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Dongfang Electric (China): 2,000MW from one contract
  2. China Power Engineering Consulting Group (China): 600MW from one contract
  3. China Energy Engineering (China): 200MW capacity from one contract.
