Power industry tenders in Q4 2021: North America leads global activity

On comparing tenders activity in different regions of the globe, North America held the top position with 688 tenders and a share of 34.6% during Q4 2021, followed by Middle East and Africa with 474 tenders and a 23.9% share and Asia-Pacific with 454 tenders and a 22.8% share.

In fourth place was Europe with 283 tenders and a 14.2% share and in fifth place was South and Central America with 88 tenders and a 4.4% share.

On the basis of the last four-quarter average, North America held a lead over others with 683 tenders, followed by Asia-Pacific with 656.

Thermal tops by technology in Q4 2021

Looking at tenders by the type of technology, thermal accounted for the largest proportion with 421 tenders and a 50.6% share, followed by solar with 315 tenders and a 37.9% share and hydro with 40 tenders and a 4.8% share.

Looking at power industry tenders divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, T&D Equipment was the most popular segment in global power tenders activity during Q4 2021, with 792 tenders, followed by Generation Equipment (443) and Power Plant (315).

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 1,163 tenders and a 58.5% share
  2. Project Implementation: 443 tenders and a 22.3% share
  3. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 247 tenders and a 12.4% share
  4. Consulting & Similar Services: 84 tenders and a 4.2% share
  5. Electricity Supply: 31 tenders and a 1.6% share
  6. Power Purchase Agreement: 14 tenders and a 0.7% share
  7. Others: five tenders and a 0.3% share.

Power tenders in Q4 2021: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of tenders for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Public Works and Government Services Canada: 255,000MW from one tender
  2. Slovensky Vodohospodarsky Podnik (Slovakia): 27,790MW from one tender
  3. Renewable Energy and Electricity Efficiency Organization: 10,000MW capacity from one tender.
