Middle East and Africa power industry tenders in July 2019: South Africa leads activity

Looking at tenders by country, South Africa led the activity in July 2019 with 75 tenders and a share of 41.2%, up 8.5% over the previous month and up 92% when compared with the last 12 month-average, followed by Oman with 35 tenders and a share of 19.2% and Namibia with 13 tenders and a share of 7.1% during the month.

Looking at the last 12-month average, South Africa held the top spot with 39 tenders, followed by Oman with 12 and Saudi Arabia with seven tenders.

Thermal is top technology area for tenders in July 2019

Looking at tenders divided by the type of technology, thermal accounted for the largest proportion with 12 tenders and a 44.4% share, followed by solar with 11 tenders and a 40.7% share and hydro with three tenders and an 11.1% share.

Looking at power industry tenders divided by segment in Middle East and Africa as tracked by GlobalData, T&D Equipment was the most popular segment in July 2019, with 87 tenders, followed by T&D Project (62) and Generation Equipment (15).

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 102 tenders and a 56% share
  2. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 40 tenders and a 22% share
  3. Project Implementation: 34 tenders and an 18.7% share
  4. Consulting & Similar Services: six tenders and a 3.3% share.

Power tenders in July 2019: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of tenders for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Middle East and Africa were:

  1. Emirates Water and Electricity (United Arab Emirates): 2,000MW from one tender
  2. Oman Power and Water Procurement (Oman): 1,000MW from one tender
  3. Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy (Morocco): 230MW capacity from one tender.
