Power industry tenders in November 2020: Asia-Pacific leads global activity

On comparing tenders activity in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with 348 tenders and a share of 49.7% during November 2020, followed by North America with 183 tenders and a 26.1% share and Middle East and Africa with 83 tenders and an 11.9% share.

In fourth place was Europe with 64 tenders and a 9.1% share and in fifth place was South and Central America with 22 tenders and a 3.1% share.

On the basis of the last 12-month average, Asia-Pacific held a lead over others with 473 tenders, followed by North America with 205.

Thermal tops by technology in November 2020

Looking at tenders by the type of technology, thermal accounted for the largest proportion with 138 tenders and a 47.3% share, followed by solar with 127 tenders and a 43.5% share and hydro with 12 tenders and a 4.1% share.

Looking at power industry tenders divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, T&D Equipment was the most popular segment during November 2020, with 278 tenders, followed by Generation Equipment (141) and T&D Project (138).

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 361 tenders and a 51.6% share
  2. Project Implementation: 186 tenders and a 26.6% share
  3. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 121 tenders and a 17.3% share
  4. Consulting & Similar Services: 22 tenders and a 3.1% share
  5. Power Purchase Agreement: seven tenders and a 1% share
  6. Others: two tenders and a 0.3% share
  7. Electricity Supply: one tender and a 0.1% share.

Power tenders in November 2020: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of tenders for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Ministerio de Minas y Energia (Colombia) (Colombia): 5,000MW from one tender
  2. Ministry for the Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge (Spain): 3,100MW from one tender
  3. CPS Energy (United States): 1,450MW capacity from one tender.
